Inclusive Design Advisor

The Civic Trust was the first award scheme to include an Inclusive Design Advisor into the assessment teams and championed access for all pre- DDA.  The Inclusive Design Advisor is someone who is qualified by either education and or experience to comment on inclusive design and accessibility in terms of the Awards.

Inclusive design ensures that all schemes are accessible for all users, from people with decreased mobility, to parents with small children, to people with sensory impairments and everything in-between.

Inclusive Design Advisors are to look at the internal and external environment of a scheme to consider Listed Building Status and the legislation and to be mindful of Building Regulations (up to date regulations can be found on the Home Office website).  As part of the application applicants have to submit an access statement explaining what measures have been taken to make the building more accessible.  The success, or not, of the scheme in terms of access should be noted in the report and used as part of the final judging decision.

If you would like to volunteer for the scheme as an Inclusive Design Advisor please click here to inform us.
