Civic Trust AwardsThe Special Award for Inclusive Design will sponsored by Bristan in 2010.
Bristan are UK’s largest supplier of bathroom and kitchen taps, showers, shower enclosures, decorative heating and bathroom accessories. Everybody deserves good design; that’s the proposition from Bristan as it launches its most comprehensive portfolio of easy-to-use products.
Bristan has brought together around 100 bathroom products to create ‘iD’, a collection of well designed, easy to use products that are suitable for all ages and abilities. The iD collection includes taps and showers operated by long levers or push controls, easy access showering, stylish grab rails that can also double up as towel rails, and wall hung WCs and basins that can be hung to the required height. Bristan are firm in their belief that good design should be for everyone, regardless of their age, size or ability. Products in their iD range combine ease of use with designer style, helping people to create a bathroom that is as practical as it is stylish.
David Savage, category supply chain manager at Bristan said “At Bristan, we believe that everyone deserves good design and that no one should feel alienated by the design of buildings, public spaces or even the products that they use. That’s why we’re so proud to be sponsoring the Special Award for Inclusive Design for the second year running.”
Malcolm Hankey from the Civic Trust Awards said “We are delighted to secure the continued support of Bristan. Inclusive design is a key aspect of our assessment criteria and through the promotion of the Special Award, we are continuing to promote the concept that good design is inclusive design.”
Professor Keith Bright is the CTA National Panel Inclusive Design Specialist and recognises the valuable contribution the Special Award has made. Keith said “the whole issue of inclusivity and accessibility has been raised from being something of interest to being an integral part of the assessment procedure. We are grateful to Bristan for their support and also for the positive contributions of the many access and design professionals that have kindly given their time to participate in the assessment process.”
