The main objectives of the group are:

  • to ensure the integrity and ethos of the Civic Trust Awards scheme is maintained.
  • to act as a reference group to represent stakeholders and advise on the strategic development and direction of the Civic Trust Awards scheme (including application, assessor and judging criteria).
  • to help to promote, support and provide guidance to the Civic Trust Awards scheme.

  • Each of the Advisory Group Members have agreed to:

  • Review and make recommendations on the future governing Terms of Reference of the Advisory Group.
  • Attend Advisory Group meetings arranged at a suitable frequency and use email to share interim issues and decisions.
  • To comment on operational delivery plans and other governing documents including the communication strategy, publicity and assessor materials.
  • Act as champions for the Civic Trust Awards scheme and promote the effectiveness of the scheme in recognising excellence in design and inspiring higher standards of urban design, planning, management and maintenance.
  • Ensure the scheme is complementary to other built environment activity and awards.
  • Ensure any surplus financial assets are used for the purpose of community benefit*
  • Review and make recommendations on the Membership of the Advisory Group.

  • * It was proposed that the Civic Trust Awards will establish a small grants scheme which will be open to receive applications from Civic Societies and Community Groups in Spring/Summer 2010.

The Advisory Group will operate independently of the Civic Trust Awards National Panel, whose role remains unaffected by the introduction of the Group.
