Civic Trust Awards
East Midlands Development Agency (emda) will support the Regional Special Award for the East Midlands Region in 2010.
Established by Government in 1999, emda is one of nine Regional Development Agencies whose primary role is to be the strategic driver of sustainable economic development. During these challenging times, the Agency’s role is to stimulate regeneration activities and support businesses through the recession. Over the long term, emda’s aim is to deliver the 2006 Regional Economic Strategy (RES) - A Flourishing Region - by working in partnership with public, private and voluntary organisations.
The Civic Trust Awards has received 11 entries from the East Midlands for the 2010 Awards and the Special Award winner will be selected by the Civic Trust Awards’ National Panel from amongst the schemes short-listed for success. The Special Award for the East Midlands will be presented to an outstanding project which not only provides a significant contribution to the built environment but also offers a strong benefit to the community it serves.
Diana Gilhespy, emda’s Executive Director of Regeneration, said: ”We’re delighted to be sponsoring this Award since bold and adventurous buildings raise aspirations on design, and contribute to the development of an innovative, stimulating and sustainable built environment. The quality of our built environment affects everyone who lives and works in the East Midlands, and is fundamental in creating the right climate for investment and helping our communities to flourish.”
Civic Trust Awards Managing Director Malcolm Hankey said “Gaining the support of emda is an important step for the Civic Trust Awards. The winning scheme will be announced at the National Civic Trust Awards Ceremony which will take place on 12th March 2010 at St George’s Hall in Liverpool.
