Civic Trust AwardsAnn Skippers, former RTPI President has joined the Civic Trust Awards National Panel and replaces long serving planning representative Martin Bradshaw.
Ann is a chartered town planner and Immediate Past President of the Royal Town Planning Institute. As well as her role as a non-salaried Planning Inspector, Ann has recently launched Ann Skippers Planning which specialises in providing support and training to individuals and groups about planning matters and neighbourhood planning. She is currently acting as facilitator for a Neighbourhood Plan Front Runner in Hertfordshire.
As RTPI President 2010- 2011, Ann represented the professional institute’s 23,000 members at various conferences and events in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States and Canada and is an acclaimed public speaker on planning issues. As a strong advocate for the planning profession Ann regularly writes about planning matters and recently updated the planning law chapters in the latest edition of Estate Management Law, a textbook for students published by the Oxford University Press.
With over twenty years practical experience in the planning sector, Ann’s career began in local government working for Chelmsford Borough Council in Essex in both development management and planning policy. In 2003, she co-founded Charisma Spatial Planning Ltd with her husband Clive Hollyman. The Practice has a varied client base and specialises in troubleshooting and negotiation, planning applications and appeals, feasibility studies and policy work as well as interim management for local authorities.
Ann has held a number of academic appointments including as a tutor for the Open University and continues to lecture regularly to planning, housing and surveying students at various universities.
Earlier this year, Ann was a member of the Labour Party’s Housing Policy Group led by Caroline Flint MP as an independent expert advising on planning matters. She has recently been appointed to the Executive Board of the Construction Industry Council and as Vice-President (Europe) of the Commonwealth Association of Planners.
Ann replaces long standing National Panel representative, Martin Bradshaw, who has recently retired from the role of planning representative. The Civic Trust Awards would like to extend its sincerest thanks to Martin for his long standing service and support.
