    Civic Trust Awards

Restoration presenter and author Griff Rhys Jones has announced the award for the best new buildings and renovations in the UK and Ireland.

The Civic Trust Awards originally attracted over 400 entrants, and the winners are projects that are recognised as culturally, socially or economically beneficial, and make an outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the environment.

Award winners include St Pancras Station, London, the City of London Information Centre, London, and the award for the best new housing project (sponsored by the Homes and Communities Agency) went to Adelaide Wharf in Hackney.

In terms of the best new public space, the Streets Award (sponsored by CABE Space) went to New Road in Brighton, and the Hard Landscaping Award (sponsored by Charcon) winner is Drift Park, Rhyl, North Wales. In addition, the NightVision Award has been won by the new Arena and Convention Centre in Liverpool.  This award recognises a project that improves the ‘evening economy’ and makes a major contribution to an area at night.

The Triangle Children, Young People & Community Centre in Haringey has been awarded the Inclusive Design Award (sponsored by Bristan), whilst the Partnership Award, sponsored by the Homes and Communities Agency, and given to projects that brought various organisations together for the benefit of the community, goes to the new Footbridge in Castleford, Yorkshire.

The Scottish Award winner (sponsored by the Scottish Government) is the Titan Crane on Clydebank, and three Welsh locations have won awards celebrating 25 years or renovation; Allt-y-bela, the Restoration of Neath Canal (Resolven to Ysgwrfa) and the Bodysgallen Hall Hotel. This Award was sponsored by Cadw and the Welsh Assembly Government.

Manchester Civil Justice Centre received the Aggregate Industries sponsored Sustainability Award.

A full list of winners is below and is also available on www.civictrustawards.org.uk where the winners’ brochure is also available for download.
