The refurbishment of the former canteen building at the Chatham Naval Dockyard has resulted in a new hub for the university campus. With lecture theatre, café, exhibition space and teaching rooms, the scheme combines conservation with sensitive modern insertions. The internal layout makes good use of the original structure. The refurbishment is an integral part of the area’s regeneration strategy and the well executed scheme has contributed to the enhancement of the public realm.
