D1f Public Library/archive/visitor centreAn attractive new facility on the site of a previous visitor centre, this scheme is well proportioned and modestly set in its landscape. The estate itself comprises around 100 acres of garden and parkland, and the elements of the house date back to the 12th century. The simple new building accommodates multi use space, which is used for education as well as for private functions. Simply used materials, such as timber and aluminium introduce an industrial reference, and the level of internal finishing is high. This is a truly public building designed for visitors in mind. The revenues generated by this building will undoubtedly mean that the gardens can be maintained very well for public use and benefit. A very beautiful and elegant scheme.
