D1c EducationAs part of a rationalisation of its estate, the university is moving from three campuses to two, requiring new residential buildings at the main Cranfield site. This restrained scheme comprises five new buildings providing accommodation for 250 students. The scheme is sensitively sited in relation to the existing 1960’s buildings and forms an attractive landscaped access route. Internal spaces are spacious, and all student rooms are either east or west facing, ensuring that they benefit from maximum natural light. This is a well considered plan which creates interesting spaces and views. The new buildings fit well into the existing campus, and the timber facade is attractive and well done, resulting in a simple elegance. A good, robust, low budget scheme
