Dating from 1770, and originally designed by James Craig as part of his New Town masterplan, this square was previously only accessible to residents and businesses in the surrounding area. Part of a World Heritage Site, it has now been opened to everyone as part of a project to rejuvenate the city’s historic spaces. With new paths, the scheme has provided attractive and well used routes to link two key areas of the city. A real civic achievement
