D1c EducationThis new build provides state of the art research facilities, housing a directorate, seminar rooms, lecture theatre, social area and laboratory. It brings together all the cancer research facilities within the University of Glasgow. The building is a crystalline cube, which contrasts with the historic nature of the site, and its ground floor opens up into the surrounding walled garden. The full length windows and glass walls allow light into the centre of the building, providing an inspiring working environment and providing stunning views. The internal layout is well thought out, and uses high quality materials. Designed by an artist, the innovative patterned glass external glazing functions as an unusual solar screen. The form and materials are very modern, reflecting the advanced nature of the research work.
