C1 Hotels & HostelsOccupying the site of the former 1970’s Lothian Regional Council Office Headquarters in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, Hotel Missoni is a very successful and contextual contemporary project with high quality access and inclusive design. The prominent site includes two A-listed buildings which have been sensitively restored and used as functioning rooms of the hotel. These rooms not only provide a beautiful environment for the visitors but retain significant aspects of the history of the buildings and culture of that time. The engaging vibrant street level façade of benches, entrances and loggias are very successful and even those parts of the building that are buried deep in the plan have been made accessible by the re-engagement with existing closes that run off the High Street. This is a very successful and contextual contemporary infill project that has given great consideration given to access issues in the design of the hotel.
