E2b Bridges, tunnelsLinking the main car park with a flagship department store in the Paradise street development area, the bridge provides a distinctive icon for the community. The geometry of the bridge was generated from the geometries of the site and the fixed locations of the bridge’s springing points, which are not aligned. It is therefore conceived as a ‘cranked’ structure that presents a simple and pragmatic solution which is nevertheless an exemplar of contemporary bridge design, equally accessible to all users . Externally it is an elegant, exciting element of engineered artwork, with an extraordinary high level of originality. Internally the bridge is a joy to use, with exactly the right balance of openness, view and security. The limited range of materials with their expertly handled geometry and intriguing form give the bridge a highly sophisticated quality.
