Information about this scheme

A belief in the power of Drawing and its central role in artistic creativity was a key driving force in developing this building that could be used by all 17 departments of AUB becoming the first such dedicated Drawing Studio as a stand-alone structure to be built in a British art college for more than 100 years. The Drawing Studio celebrates and is designed around the phenomenon of natural light, drawing attention to 4 particular aspects of light. The exterior is a totality - a ‘marker’ element for the north end of the AUB Campus, while the interior acts as a foil to the drawing activity. This is a building that fits its purpose perfectly; a space for drawing that invites you to draw. Since completion the Drawing Studio has proved much more diverse as a space than originally planned. As well as drawing classes, the building has been used for events and special exhibitions, allowing the public to view and enjoy the space.
