Information about this scheme

Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop (ESW) is one of Scotland's most exceptional visual arts organisations. The new lottery-funded building, the Bill Scott Sculpture Centre (Phase 1), and the privately funded Creative Laboratories (Phase 2), comprises of 30 artists’ studios, exhibition spaces, a courtyard forming a new public external arena, large workshops for wood, metal, plaster and mixed media, a new education room and project room, administrative accommodation and apartments for visiting lecturers and sculptors. Robust, flexible and economical industrial construction methods were employed to allow the internal spaces to be adapted to suit the future needs of the building user, making this truly a building dedicated to the production and manufacturing within. In tandem with their support for artists, ESW promotes public access to contemporary sculpture through a high quality programme of creative activities and learning opportunities including exhibitions, sculpture courses, workshops, community projects, talks, tours and open days. More than 2,800 artists and 48,000 public visitors and participants have benefitted from their activities to date.
