Information about this scheme

By the late 20th century and since its last Victorian repair, Base Court, the primary reception space to Hampton Court Palace had suffered gradual decay. Fractured stone, unstable chimneys and spalling brickwork placed visitors at risk of falling masonry and the grassed quadrangle encourage people to pass through without stopping. Historic Royal Palaces’ vision has encompassed conservative repair, restoration of the paved surfaces, installation of new gates and a functioning wine fountain towards an overall conservation, revelation, representation, enhancement and interpretation of one of Britain’s most cherished ancient monuments. Base Court now reflects the original magnificence of the Tudor Palace providing a new venue for interpretation, entertainment, education and welcome.
