Information about this scheme

The scheme involved rebuilding the centre of the Clifton campus with two new buildings and plaza, giving the campus a focal point and sense of identity.  The Pavilion, the new social heart for the students, offers two levels of social study space, which include enclosed learning ‘pods’ and collaborative booths for group study. In addition, a barista and seating area are available for students and staff to relax and socialise in the communal areas. Pre-cast concrete vaults are used for the roof while the external walls are made of red and grey brick, reflecting the local materiality. The building achieved BREEAM Excellent and is also carbon negative in use. This is complemented by a large teaching block with state-of-the-art teaching spaces - flexible classrooms and lecture spaces. A new triangular ‘piazza’ is framed by the two buildings, with external landscaping providing coherence to the site.
