Information about this scheme

The New Bridge Street Buildings are some of the most prominent and significant buildings in Ayr, forming a landmark gateway for the town centre, recognised by all the residents. Saving and restoring the fine Georgian buildings, changing them from disintegrating old buildings back into what they were originally conceived to be, has become the most significant and welcomed project of the Ayr renaissance project. The conservation project included historical research, survey and building investigation, material examination, expert specification, sensitive construction techniques and construction by skilled specialist subcontractors. The status and quality of the buildings now mark a positive entry to the town centre on crossing the bridge, enhancing the townscape character and providing a civic presence which had been lacking for many decades.
