Information about this scheme

The New QEII Hospital is an exemplar of low energy, sustainable healthcare, particularly designed around patients’ wellbeing. Part of a new generation of NHS Local Hospitals, it integrates primary, acute & social care services. Three ‘L’ shaped wings define a central courtyard around which the main public circulation is arranged. Colour theming leads to department receptions and sub-waiting zones, visually and spatially linked by internal open voids allowing good daylight, courtyard views and legibility for way-finding. Flexible clinical layouts and generic spaces enable future adaptability. Overall the building is permeable, open, welcoming and a generous addition to the community, fulfilling a broader civic role; it is part of an area of new development of which it will become the centre piece.
