Information about this scheme

NT Future is the major regeneration of the Grade II* listed National Theatre (NT) to open the site up to its changing context, remodel the entrance, refurbish the foyers, create new riverside cafés, transform the Cottesloe (now the Dorfman) Theatre with improved foyer and education facilities, enhance backstage workshops, and provide a new production building, the Max Rayne Centre. The aim of the project is to reconnect Denys Lasdun’s masterpiece with the changing city and community, to transform its sustainability, and to equip it to serve the NT for continued artistic growth. NT Future aims to make Lasdun’s greatest building accessible to a new generation, while enabling the NT to develop their role at the forefront of world theatre. Overall, NT Future has radically transformed the theatre’s public appeal, artistic capability commercial viability and environmental sustainability while protecting and reinforcing its architectural significance.
