Oriam is a world-leading sporting facility for Heriot Watt University, City of Edinburgh Council & sportscotland. It is the training base for Scottish Football, Rugby, Basketball, Handball, Squash/Racketball & Volleyball as well as the institute of sport. It provides athletes, coaches and officials with facilities to create an exceptional performance environment, reaffirming and strengthening Scotland’s sporting credentials. This very dramatic structure, set at the edge of the university campus with a woodland back drop, has strong circulation routes and provides large volume sports spaces which include a full size indoor & outdoor synthetic pitch, 9 court sports hall, 5 outdoor grass football pitches, 2 grass rugby pitches, a hydrotherapy suite, 8 squash courts, 2 exercise studios and 4 court sports hall. In addition it provides world class facilities for sports science and medicine, a fitness suite, conferencing, changing facilities and a café. This project was designed to be a delight to be in, to work in, to learn in and to linger in.
