Information about this scheme

The new three-storey low energy Senior School incorporates an existing 25m swimming pool and three retained teaching buildings. With a footprint of 130m x 20m, this new linear wing located along the northern boundary of the site, forms a distinctive image for the school from the public domain. The new entrance into the school, from a drop-off ‘porte cochère' creates an impressive arrival experience for students and visitors.  The three-storey “Bar” building  in 'Brazilian Modernist' style accommodates a main multi-use hall (the social and sports hub for the new faculty), classrooms, science labs, a 6th form Common Room, staff workroom and a conference / board room, changing areas and plant space. The masterplan separates vehicles and pedestrians with landscaped zones doubling as external classrooms. The building's form of horizontal bands has created a distinctive architectural presence, and a legible front door for the BSR Barra campus. Located adjacent to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games Barra site, the building was completed in July 2016 and hosted Team GB, who used the new building as its base.
