Information about this scheme

Trentham Tower, an eye-catcher within the parkland of Sandon Hall, Staffordshire, has been completely restored with major grants from Natural England.  The Tower is a fragment of Trentham Hall, designed by Sir Charles Barry, demolished in 1910, and re-erected at Sandon in 1911-12.  The Tower was in a very poor state due to structural movement and the scope of repairs was primarily focussed on the major structural repairs needed. Damaged masonry has been repaired, vandalised balusters replaced and the viewing platform has been reinstated and weatherproofed. New rainwater disposal goods have been provided as well as a new below ground drainage system to a nearby abandoned delve. Concrete steps and iron railings at the entrance have been removed and reset on a proper concrete foundation and fragments of rotten joinery were used as patterns for new doors. The programme of repair has restored the Tower to good condition, and has left a building which can again be enjoyed as a feature within a fine landscape park.
