Information about this scheme

The Dean and Chapter of Winchester Cathedral have been developing a programme of new and innovative opportunities for learning and participation at the Cathedral to increase access for a wider audience. The project provides a new seminar space which is multi-functional and fully accessible with the capacity for up to 100 people, enabling a much greater range of educational activities and bringing a new perspective to the understanding of life in the Cathedral’s past. The new Learning Centre, with a large sweeping roof over the glazed oak framed structure beneath, has been designed as a building within the garden. It is deliberately kept away from the historic garden walls; its orientation enabling views of the cathedral itself. A contemporary version of an Apothecary’s Garden has been created and planted with herbs and other species that would have been grown there for medicines and balms.
